Streets Alive (Launceston, TAS)

Follow the Streets Alive Arts Trail: From Junky to Funky as it transforms unexpected spaces across Launceston’s CBD with  installations created out of recycled and upcycled materials.

Re-Made: Art Fashion for the 21st Century is a playful fashion show of eccentric garments made from recycled materials, created by a group of national and international designers, currently based in Launceston. More Tip Shop than Op Shop. (Curated by Ralf Haertel)

The White Box Experiment

The White Box Experiment

Manic Productions (Launceston, TAS)

The White Box Experiment is an invention of the Junction Arts Festival and Manic Productions. It invites local Launceston artists and painters, Vika Emma Fifita, Josh Foley, Peter McGeachy and Peter Sly, along with Castlemaine artist Helen Kelly to create an experimental laboratory and relaxed environment that both mimics and plays with traditional notions of the artist’s studio. Visit the artists often over the course of the Festival to watch their paintings, drawings, collage and a live soundscape evolve from their empty white box.

Join us on Sunday for the Opening Party/Finissage.

Talking Skirt (Prototype)

Talking Skirt (Prototype)

Sonja Hindrum (Launceston, TAS)

Talking Skirt (Prototype) explores how we communicate through textiles and what we wear. Made of 32 one-metre-long pin-tucks, 77 metres of conductive thread, 16 metres of stainless steel and new and recycled technology, Hindrum has created a wearable skirt that is activated by touch. Still in its prototype infancy stage, test it out by turning the ‘page’ to hear an author read their poem. The prototype was developed in collaboration with Queechy High School during an artist residency in early 2011. (Poets: Mark Tredinnick, Deirdre Kessler, Ray Liversidge; Electronics: Paul Alting van Geusau)
